Unsolicited commercial mobile messages is becoming an increasing concern for both mobile users and in turn network operators and the mobile marketing industry.

A recent report in the Observer highlighted this concern. Organisations, such as the DMA's mobile council have been developing best practice guidelines to help marketers.

Whilst most brands and agencies run compliance, opt-in campaigns, the increase in mobile marketing seems to have led to higher user dissatisfaction, However with no studies of this there are no measurements and reports are largely anecdotal.

"The mobile is such a personal media, and it is utmost important to respect users; frankly in order to do this, we need much more understanding of what users want", says CEO and Chair of DMA Mobile Council, Mark Brill.
