The short URL effect: mobile click-through-rates go through the roof

Shortened, or compressed URLs (such as those created with TinyURL) are becoming a key factor in driving mobile click-through rates, which have, according to a recent report by Novarra, risen by 1,068 per cent this year alone.

Short URLs have become part of everyday Internet usage. They allow users to include URLs in messages sent via Twitter, (140 characters) and SMS (106 characters). In turn increasing popularity of the two communication tools.

The report, Mobile Internet Experience Update, focuses on analysing two URL compression services bit.ly and tinyurl.com. Both are growing at staggering rates and TinyURL is now ranking within the world's 200 most visited sites.

This illustrates the power of the quick and simple message. In other words, short URLs are great for mobile marketers!
