Calling all sneaker fans! NIKEiD introduces new brand experience via iphone app.
This is a cool application and it takes product customization to new highs. Snap a picture on your iphone and use it to design your brand new shoes - or use any picture that you have. Get colour crazy - the app will put colour in the right places so users don't have to be a master at design. The app can also shuffle colours and then it's just a matter of picking a favourite combination.
The NikeiD app lets customers order their tailor-made sneakers directly from the phone, or share the design with friends. Similar then to the Ralph Lauren app, which I wrote about a few weeks ago. We're expecting to see more of these kinds of brand engaging apps.
Utility is the big keyword in the app world at the moment. As the novelty wears of people demand their next app to serve a real purpose. Does the NIKEiD app really serve a purpose? Judging by the comments so far it seem that the end product's price may be a barrier here and that's a shame as these apps go a long way to put fantasy and cool into the brands.
