Party island Ibiza go mad for Bluetooth!

Campaigns: Fri 10th September 2009

The world's largest Bluetooth network, placed on the party Island Ibiza, has reached 24,710 unique mobile phones since it was set up in May.

If you have been anywhere near Ibiza, you might have notices how Bluetooth messages have been used throughout the summer to deliver mobile marketing messages in the form of videos, offers and promotions from the local bars as well as the major nightclubs straight to clubbers handsets.

Media network operator Shock Concepts, who are responsible for the network, explain how points placed at the four most popular destinations; the airport, San Antonio, San Antonio bay, Playa d'en Bossa and Ibiza Rocks were established earlier in the year in preparation for the millions of party-goers who visits the island during the summer.

The network is the largest of its kind in the world, however in addition to the fixed points, Shock Concepts also used movable battery powered units in order to cover even more streets and the beaches - several PR teams were sent out carrying Bluetooth units by foot and by jeeps.

Local advertising bureau Ibizad have been responsible for maintaining the network and managing the clients. One client, club promoter Tom Ross, comments:

"Bluetooth was something I was aware of, but not something I had ever used. Since the island tightened up on flyering regulations seemed to be a fantastic way to supplement the promotions. I was not sure at first how effective it would be so I ran a 2-4-1 entry offer and couldn't believe how many people turned up with the offer on their phone! I will definitely carry on using it."

The company behind the initiative, Shock Concepts are very pleased about the result.

Co-founder Oliver Bareham said; "Installing a network into Ibiza was a massive risk, but we are delighted with how well it has turned out! Having Ibizad on the ground in Ibiza has made all the difference; clients knowing that a professional team is on hand to monitor the campaigns gave them absolute piece of mind. We have agreed to run the network for the next 3 years and look forward to many more successful seasons."

With this proven success, it seems that Bluetooth marketing is staying in Ibiza for the foreseeable future.
