NatWest launch iPhone banking

Apps: Thurs 26th November 2009

As you may have read in the news this week: RBS / NatWest have launched an iPhone app. This is the first mobile app to be produced by a major bank. The app is simple and does not offer any boundary-breaking functionalities. However, it appears generally useful. With the Natwest iPhone app you can:

  • Monitor your current account with up-to-date balance checks.
  • View a mini-statement with your last 6 transactions.
  • Setup and manage text alert services, including balance updates and limit alerts.

The bad news is that the app is having some teething problems, and it has not been very well received with rating of 3/5 in Apple's iTunes store. This makes NatWest look as though they just want to jump on the app-bandwagon without a 100% consideration for the product and the end-user. Again it highlights the fact that iPhone users are demanding increasingly higher standard apps and the importance of app utility.
