Campaign: Thurs 4th June 2009
Darwen town council is getting smarter; 4 Bluetooth hotspots are today placed within the borough - each will transmit a video to those by-passers with Bluetooth switched on - reminding them to vote.
The Bluetooth initiative is supported by a variety of other new methods. The elected 13 town councillors will be revealed instantly via Twitter, and Youtube and Facebook are also used to engage with voters.
The video, which people can get from Bluetooth hotspots near the town halls in Blackburn and Darwen, The Mall or near Blackburn Market, features a simple 'play around' with the X symbol.
Graham Burgess, chief executive of Blackburn with Darwen Council explains the innovative approach as "an excellent opportunity to reach new audiences and signpost them towards the main Council website where information about the full range of council services and activities can be found. It is, however, important to note that these channels are being explored in the context of complimenting existing channels, not replacing them."
Darwen town council's campaign is a good example of Bluetooth marketing used in addition to other interactive channels. It illustrates the importance of an integrated approach in mobile marketing, as it is the combination of these channels, which drives the maximum results. In light of this, we predict that today's turn out will be very successful!
